The Letter Carrier by Laurie LC Lewis

What I Didn’t Like:

• Dry. This text feels removed from the main character and her important story. I felt a lack of connection to her, which just made the story feel drier than I’d like. 
• Formatting. The ebook, which is what I was working from, is very oddly formatted. There are page breaks with headers and page numbers in the middle of text and paragraph breaks in odd spots. I was able to ignore it most of the time, but it was awkward. 
• The ending. That final chapter had no need of being the final chapter. I will say I’m glad the author included an afterword, which gave me more of the information I was craving. As a fellow author and creator I can understand why it ended where it did but as a reader I just wanted more. 

What I Did Like:

• Based on a true story. It always adds to the emotional toll of a story like this when you know it’s based in fact. The main character shared her story and life with the author. It’s really an amazing account of France during WWII. 
• This book went further beyond the Nazi occupation of France than other books I have read on the same topic. I appreciated the glimpse into what it was like when war was still raging. That part of this book was unique and appreciated. 
• The focus of this story, and the reason it’s a good one, is essentially on the REAL PEOPLE of WWII and their experiences. I appreciate that the author, although she says she took a few liberties, stuck to the real story. 

Who Should Read This One:

• Historical fiction fans who crave more history and realism in the books they enjoy.

• You really have to like the historical side of historical WWII fiction and then this one will be a new favorite.
