2022 Book Review: Beneath a Blanket of Snow

Beneath a Blanket of Snow by Arlene Lomazoff-Marron

A Contemporary, Independently Published in 2020, 354 Pages

There’s at least one chapter that didn’t fit in the timeline. Without spoiling anything I’ll say there’s a character who is going to have surgery. Then we jump to another POV and it’s weeks later. Then we jump back and the surgery is happening. This threw me. Are these timelines not in sync?
These salaries would have to be a LOT higher for these characters to live the lifestyles they’re living. The actual number is never given, but the implication was made and that didn’t match up with reality. It’s a small thing though, so I just chose to ignore it.
Some telling vs showing. There are aspects to this story that I wanted to feel closer to the characters for. Some of it was delivered in declarative sentences that made it a little dry when it had the potential to be emotional.

This reminds me of an episode I saw of a documentary on a con once. The husband was arrested in his pajamas in the morning and the wife had no idea what was going on. The documentary was about the husband and I remember wondering what the wife did to cope after this. This book helped me get that answer.
I loved that the entire group was pulled into this one. You think this is a story about a family torn apart by secrets and trying to cope in the wake of something shocking. Instead, it’s the story of the secrets many people are hiding and what happens when that is peeled back.
Meredith is a great character who copes well with the things that are thrown at her in this book. I liked her right away and wanted good things for her.

Fans of slice of life stories about women living life and learning their own strength.
