The Lost Sisters by Holly Black

What I Didn’t Like:

• Taryn. If you’re familiar with the Folk of the Air series, you already have opinions about this character. I can’t say this book will change them. Call that a warning. 
• Nothing added to the series. Of course, that’s the point. This is a novella. It’s not a problem if you skip it and just move from book 1 to book 2 (especially now that the full series is available). But when you read it you may get the sense that it added nothing to the series. 

What I Did Like:

• Extra content. That’s exactly the point of this novella, I know. It’s nice to take that trip back to Elfhame and get a little more of the characters you are already so familiar with. 
• Alternate perspective. I do love extra perspectives. I’m one of those readers who would probably read novellas from every character. This was a great exercise in viewing things from someone else’s point of view. 
• The slippery slope of the “villain”. Ok, she’s not the villain, not really. But it was great to see the personality change even in only 50 pages. It was good to watch this develop into what we already know it becomes later in the series. Well written.

Who Should Read This One:

• Obviously, fans of the Folk of the Air series will want this extra perspective and new scenes. 
• If you aren’t sure it’s worth taking a chance on the Folk of the Air series and you don’t mind (mild) spoilers, I’d say give this one a try! At 50 pages it gives you a chance to learn a little about the world and taste test the writing.

• This book set out to give you an alternate perspective and different scenes and it did exactly that.
