Bitter Frost by Kailin Gow

What I Didn’t Like:

• Weird pacing. There are parts we fast-forward through, parts that drag, and parts that are perfect. I wanted more balance.
• This feels incomplete. I’m not sure this book stands on its own separate from book 2 (or the rest of the series). At less than 300 pages, it likely could have been combined with the second book to make it feel like a more complete story.
• Instalove. I’m hoping there’s more in the sequel because right now it feels a little unbelievable.
• The concept has been done before. The pixies add a little something but I’m not sure it’s enough to distinguish it from the others I’ve read like it.

What I Did Like:

• I do like the characters. Breena, Kian, and Logan are all interesting. I’d read more of them.
• I enjoy books that explore fairylands and customs. This sets up an intriguing view of how pixies interact with fairyland that I would be interested in exploring a little more. 
• It does intrigue a reader by easing you into what might be an amazing series. 

Who Should Read This One:

• If you’re a fan of fairyland stories and starcrossed lovers, this one will appeal to you. I would suggest having book 2 nearby and ready to go.

• It has promise but you’ll have to commit to the series. It doesn’t stand on its own.
