20th Victim by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro

A Mystery/Thriller, 2020 by Little Brown, 432 Pages 

What I Didn’t Like:

• A few grammatical errors and continuity errors jumped out at me while I was reading. Nothing big or story altering, but errors nonetheless. 
• The 20th book in this series recycles things from the previous 19. There were moments where I wondered if I’d already read this one (I hadn’t) because things felt so similar to previous books. It doesn’t feel as climactic and terrifying when it’s been done so much. 
• CW: Cancer. Don’t come at me saying that’s something that doesn’t need a content warning. I was blindsided by this being thrown in and the way it was handled. A little warning might have been nice. I’m trying to help others.

What I Did Like:

• The core group felt a little more like themselves this time. I think I mentioned in some previous books that they went too far away from the core ideals they’d started with. That felt fixed in this one. 
• Cindy. There seemed to be more of a focus on Cindy’s job and her importance to the story/group than in previous books. I liked that. She’s never been my favorite character but she’s stronger after this book, for sure. 

Who Should Read This One:

• Honestly if you’re invested in the series you’re going to keep reading it just like I do even if it’s a random pickup of a title that’s been out for 2 years. I actually DIDN’T put this one on my TBR because I said I was quitting the series after the last one. Then I forgot I said that I picked this up on impulse. I’ll try to remember this time.
• If you’re looking for something new in this genre, I’d recommend something else first.

• If I’m being completely honest the redundancy of some plot points and the typographical errors made this one problematic for me.
