I’ve finished my next 5 book reviews for October. Let’s dive into the details.

Yeah, that seems about right. Someone asked me the other day what kind of books I read and a friend said “Oh, she reads young adult”. Which, first of all, isn’t a kind of book, it’s an age category. But, secondly, it’s not even entirely true. YES, I read young adult. I also write it. But, clearly, I read mostly books written for the adult age category.

I had a few weeks where male authored books pulled ahead. Back to normal now.
Genres: 3 Fantasy, 2 Horror
Well isn’t that interesting. This is the most boring genre span I’ve had in a group of 5 books for a long time.

One problematic balanced out by one amazing book that crosses genres? I’ll take it.
Book Notes That Didn’t Make the Video
Heart of the Sungem
- So, funny story — I received a free copy of this from the author before it came out (ARC). THEN I completely forgot to download it and life got chaotic. But I REALLY wanted to read it. SO, I ended up buying the ebook. It was my way of saying “OMG I’m sorry the review was late, here’s a sale to make up for it.” I do NOT regret buying this one!
- This, if I didn’t mention it, was the sequel to Soul of the Crow. There is a third book in the series, which is coming soon.

Middlegame
- I borrowed this hardcover from my local library when they reopened for borrowing (YAY) after this one was recommended based on my review of 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.
- I see WHY this one was recommended! The time travel angle, the deep premise that you have to dig into, and the characters who are morally questionable are all featured.

A Red Winter in the West
- I received this one from the author as an ebook in exchange for an honest review.
- I previously rated the first book in this series, Massacre at Yellow Hill, 4 stars because I thought it would appeal to all horror fans. This one, although it is the same series, somehow feels muted. Yes, it is still gorey and horrific. But something about it has a different vibe.

Carve the Mark
- I listened to this one as an audiobook that I borrowed from my local library. It’s a long book and it took me a REALLY long time to get it finished.
- I didn’t mention it in the video but I seriously loved Divergent. I loved the entire series, but I’m one of those wacky people who actually LIKED the ending of the series. I LOVE when authors take risks. So, I had a good opinion of Roth going into this one.

Patchwork
- This was an electronic copy the author sent me in exchange for an honest review.
- I mention in the video that Bailey is my favorite story in this collection (although it’s a close race). Did you ever see that movie The Good Son with Macaulay Culkin? This gave me major Good Son vibes. I also watched an episode of this new show Evil while I was reading this (I mean, not simultaneously … but the same day) and WHOA there were parallels. It was episode 4 for any of you interested.
