We are just over half-way through January and I already have a fun update … the first draft of the opening book in the Superhero trilogy is FULLY DRAFTED.
This draft clocked in at 40 chapters (as outlined) but only 47,640 words. That tells me this will need some editing as I likely rushed a few scenes. But that’s another topic for another time. For now, I’m celebrating being DONE with this draft.
Now comes the interesting part … deciding what to do next.Â
I have a lot on my plate right now, which is typical for me. So I need to break down my options and see which one feels right, if that makes sense.
Here are my options:
- Edit the one I just finished. Look, I almost NEVER do this and I can’t imagine I’ll end up starting now. But, there is a part of me that wants to just go back to the beginning of this one and see what scenes I rushed because I KNOW I rushed some. I know there are spots where I pulled back, faded to black, or let the emotions be flat. I can fix those while they’re still fresh in my mind.Â
- I could just power through to drafting book 2. I have NEVER drafted a full series back-to-back without pause. My Fraun series had time in between. Time for me to reread, rethink, and replot. I have to admit I’m sort of drawn to the idea of letting this one happen continuously by diving right into the second book. It’s already outlined so, really, nothing is stopping me.Â
- Jump projects. I have 3 other full outlines I could dive into and try drafting. I have a few other ideas I could try outlining. Options options options.Â
Well, as usual, typing out the options makes them super clear. I can see in the way I worded these that I already made my choice. Do you see it?
I think tomorrow I’ll start drafting book 2.Â
Let’s do this.
