April Progress Check

Do you ever have those months where you know you’ll be lucky to just get THROUGH the month? Like any progress you make along the way (accidentally, I might add) is just a bonus on the fact that you got through the month? That was April. Of course, I can’t even properly explain WHY April was like that. There was a lot of GO GO GO, a lot of errands, a lot of little things. But nothing that should’ve kept me from focusing. Let’s see how bad it got.

As a reminder, we began 2026 with these (lofty) goals in mind:

Each month, I take a look at that document and get myself some focuses for the coming month. In April those focuses were:

  1. Finish the edit of the Apocalypse Project
  2. Get some cover options together for the Apocalypse Project
  3. Check in with the betas for the AP
  4. Format that ebook
  5. Get Succour ARCs OUT
  6. Finish the Superhero 2 Draft
  7. Do the Authortalk at Scribbed Hollow
  8. Attend the Lit & Bloom Festival
  9. Nail Down the Future Project outline

So, let’s take a look at how I did, shall we?

I tried to put all of my focus into this project this month. But when you have no real focus, that’s tricky. I was able to put together some cover ideas (I’m on the fence about most of them at this point) and I think I edited another 5 chapters. I was able to check in with one beta but not the other. The ebook is sort of formatted, I’m waiting on my dang edit to be finished before I worry about the fine grit details.

It looks like nothing has changed on this sheet, but you can see things happening if you’re following the book on Goodreads where early reviews have started to come in! Check it out for yourself and add it to your want to read list ahead of the July release!

I don’t even think I opened this project in April, honestly.

As you might have noticed, some of my 2026 goals are to make decisions about projects that are stalled. I either need to outline them (and give them project pages) or abandon them altogether. In March I was able to get a rough sort of outline together for this project, but I wanted to flush it out more. In April, I made progress on that! It’s not done yet, but it’s much better than bare bones. At this point, I think it may have to get a project page soon.

  • I attended the Authortalk scheduled at Scribbled Hollow. I always have fun down there! It’s an adorable bookstore. It you haven’t checked it out and you’re Glendale local, you should! It’s worth a trip.
  • I also attended the Lit & Bloom Festival. This was my first event with the Wildish Women Book Club but I hope there will be more in the future! It was well attended and a lot of fun.
  • I ordered MORE inventory (this is the downside of so many productive events) and more bookmarks.

All in all the April Progress pages in my journal look like THIS:

So What’s Next?

The next step for the Apocalypse Project is to actually finish all the stuff I put on the schedule in April and didn’t get to (finishing the edit, make that cover decision) and ASSEMBLE THE ARC TEAM! For Succour (the Romance) I need to get my final proofread done from my author copy. I’d like to finish the draft of book 2 in the Superhero trilogy and finish the Future Project outline. I’m also planning to give the Future Project its own project page. Then, finally, I have to prep for Fan Fusion (which is in early June).

Wait, we didn’t talk about READING

True, we did not. I’m officially moving ALL of my reading content to All the Right Reads. Follow us on Instagram or TikTok to catch those updates!

TLDR: April really beat me up. I met a few goals, failed a few goals, and really had trouble finding my groove at all.
