May Progress Check

After a slow April, I knew I wanted to put some time back into my writing in May and really find my flow again. That requires a lot of dedication and focus, sometimes. It involves fighting against my instinct to just grab a book and read when I have time to sit down. I end up having to almost push myself back into a rhythm. Let’s see if I did that in May.

As a reminder, we began 2026 with these (lofty) goals in mind:

Each month, I take a look at that document and get myself some focuses for the coming month. In May those focuses were:

  1. Finish the edit for the Apocalypse Project
  2. Make a decision on the cover for the Apocalypse Project
  3. Assemble the ARC Team for that project
  4. Complete the final proofread of Succour
  5. Work on the Superhero 2 draft
  6. Finish the future outline
  7. Make the Future Project a project page
  8. Prep for Fan Fusion

So, let’s take a look at how I did, shall we?

Enough has happened with this project for it to get the finished bones of the project pages drafted in. The schedule is all set for its release and we’re proceeding on! More beta feedback rolled in this month. Those edits are in and it really helped me work out a couple of character ARCs that I’d left sort of open ended. Basically, this is happening! Very exciting. After the additions and work this one sits just under 70,000 words. I did push the schedule back a little, which means the ARC call isn’t happening yet. Honestly, it’s because I need to see how the cover we seem to be leaning toward looks on an actual book. So I’ve ordered an author copy and I’ll make that final decision in June! Get excited though, fans, this one is coming … and likely even coming in 2026.

Reviews continue to come in on this one, which is exciting. I started the proof read but I’ll end up carrying that into June. This one is on track, early reviews look good, and we’ll be doing another EARLY preorder for anyone attending Fan Fusion in June! Stop by Author Alley book B903 to get in on that.

Added 14,971 words to this project in May. Also worked out a few kinks in the storyline, made some notes for book 3, and seriously beefed up the outline coming up. This one is still making GREAT progress. I still LOVE these characters. Maybe I’ll have to commission some character art here soon. These guys are going to be fast favorites, I can already tell.

As you might have noticed, some of my 2026 goals are to make decisions about projects that are stalled. I either need to outline them (and give them project pages) or abandon them altogether. I managed to finish the outline of this one in May. It’s definitely a solid outline I’d be happy to draft from at some point. This joins the finished outlines I have waiting for my next opportunity to draft (they’re going in behind the Superhero trilogy in order of importance, however). This is one of the things I’d struggled with in previous years. I didn’t have enough projects getting added to the book. I had vague ideas and they never moved past that. 2026 is the year of taking that back and getting my ideas down for future me. Anyway, check out the new project page! It may be a baby page, but there’s no way I forget about this now.

I prepped for Fan Fusion (which is early June), attended the Prescott Public Library Fair, and posted about some of my books as a countdown to Fan Fusion!

All in all the May Progress pages in my journal look like THIS:

The next step for the Apocalypse Project is to assemble the ARC team and reveal that beautiful cover (obviously this means seeing that print cover and making any tweaks that need to happen). Preorders for Succour will open this month, which means it’s time for me to get that final proofread finished from the actual print copy I have. I’ll add more words to the Superhero draft. Then, I want to look through the Secret Project and start organizing my notes. Soon, I’ll have to turn my attention to either outlining that or scrapping the idea altogether.
