All the Bad Apples by Moira Fowley-Doyle
YA Fantasy, 2019 by Kathy Dawson Books, 326 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- I will NEVER call someone a bad apple again. Technically, I’m relatively sure I never have. I cringed every time someone was called that in this book (and it was a lot).
- The flashback chapters/stories sort of bored me, honestly. I get that they were important but I didn’t love them.
- I didn’t love our main character. I wanted to but something about the voice just felt whiny and selfish.
- Repetitive. Phrases, main points, and ideas are all repeated a bit too much.
What I Did Like:
- There’s a twist reveal that worked. I like to be surprised and this was surprising.
- Found family. This trio who accompanies our main character are adorable and dedicated.
- The book has big lessons on grief, tolerance, and compassion that I adored.
Who Should Read This One:
- Readers that like fantastical elements in their important contemporary stories that make the themes really pop in an interesting way.
