30 Day Writing Challenge-Day 24

A lesson I learned the hard way?

Nothing immediately came to mind when I read this prompt. I would assume that is because I believe all lessons are valuable, even if they’re tough. I’m one of those people who lets grudges and things go. No point in dwelling, right? So any lesson I learned the hard way is probably forgotten once it’s learned. I had to really dig around in my head to think of something. But I got one.

Money Management

Like so many of us, I learned to manage money the hard way. Basically that means I’ve bounced checks, I’ve overdrafted accounts, I’ve wracked up credit card bills, and I’ve lived paycheck-to-paycheck. It took a whole lot of tears before I learned a system that worked for us.

Heck, if I’m being honest, there are still times when it’s not as easy as it should be. I think that’s why I invented a fictional world where they make it work without money (Kingdom of Fraun). Having no money to do something or buy something that you need is demoralizing. Having to resort to borrowing or charging to a credit card for an actual emergency is disheartening.

So, yes, I learned the hard way how to manage our finances month-to-month. Yes, there are still times when we have to struggle or make tough choices.

That’s my lesson that I learned the hard way.
