June Progress Check

Hello everyone! It’s already June 20th (YIKES) and I decided it’s nice to check in with my accountability team (read: you fine people) regarding June’s goals.

First, a quick reminder about what those goals actually were:

  • Write 1000 words (per day)
  • Read 150 Pages (per day)
  • Edit 2 Chapters Per Day
  • Post at least 2 shorts to the blog
  • Post new videos to the YouTube on Tuesdays
  • Let’s also add take a minute/second/hour/day to revel in the release of PROJECTION (released June 4th).

WORD COUNT:

Empty box=zero or rounds to zero
Half circle=rounds to 500 words
Full circle=at least 1000 words

As this little graphic shows, it’s been a rough month for word count. Admittedly, some of those days that just look like I hit 100% were more like 200 or 300% of the goal. But some of those empty boxes are true 0s, so it doesn’t really balance out. In fact, my average is just under 950 words per day when it’s all said and done.

Fixable.

READING:

Technically, I count pages read per day. Technically, I’m a little behind on the average (I’m at 141 pages per day but I haven’t logged today’s). However, my end of the month wrap up over on YouTube is already 10 clips long for the 10 books I’ve finished in June. So in reality I’m on track (still) to meet that monster of a year long goal, which was to read 104 books during this calendar year.

EDITING:

Empty box=Zero
Full Circle=at least 2

This graph doesn’t do this goal justice. Sure, there are a LOT of empty boxes there. But what you can’t see is that some of those circles really represent over 10 chapters edited. Editing is something I’m taking my time with this round (I’m editing the third Kingdom of Fraun book for the second time) because it’s already been through one major edit and still something felt off about it. This time, I’m determined to figure out what that is, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about the book/world. I’m happy to say I FINISHED THIS PROCESS yesterday. That means today I got to start moving on to actually making the magic happen. I found two story arcs that were missing from this book and now I’m adding them in. SO MUCH FUN! I’m actually averaging right at 2 chapters a day when this goal is all said and done.

BLOG:

I’ve posted 4 times this month (not including this one) and 3 of them have been shorts or scenes. COOL! I’m actually toying around with the idea of compiling all my short stories into a little anthology of sorts. Drop a comment and let me know if that’s something you think I should (or shouldn’t) do!

YOUTUBE:

Not only am I posting every Tuesday, subscribers got a bonus video this month on a Wednesday. I’ve also learned a lot about editing video so the quality is much better. This last video was probably my best ever in terms of sound, video quality, and editing. I’ve also started using a new intro…take a look and let me know what you think by dropping a comment!

PROJECTION

I’d say I’ve taken a bit more than a minute to appreciate it. I’ve been reading the initial reviews and I’m happy to say they’re great. My paperbacks are on order and should arrive soon. If you’re waiting on an autographed copy…soon, I promise!

Okay, so that’s my update for today. I’m going to jump back to work. Drop a comment to let me know how you’re doing on your goals.

SEE YOU SOON!

  1. That is a massive list of daily tasks, but you seem to be disciplined enough to accomplish them based on your progress report. I like how you have a bunch of creative projects going on at once. That’s how I work too. It can be overwhelming at times, but if I can get even a small amount of each task accomplished per day, I feel like that’s a win.
