Poetry Challenge January 2025

For 2025 I decided it was time to let myself get back to poetry challenges. Of course, I picked a heck of a time to get back into that without researching. Apparently, in the years since I’ve participated in the challenges I used to do, they’ve all gone on hiatus! Still, I made it a mission to write more poetry so I found myself a prompt that will help.

Am I capable of writing poetry without a prompt? Yes, obviously. In fact most of the poetry I wrote when I was younger came directly out of my brain without prompting. But when you’re out of practice, prompts help you get inspired. Baby steps.

Anyway, the prompt I found calls itself the #dailypoemproject (although they don’t appear to have social media using that hashtag, at least not that I’ve found). The prompt for January 8th was Inspired by …

This marks the first time (ever, as far as I recall) that my poem worked best with a gif of a firework at the center. So, to enjoy it best, hit that play button.

The poem is inspired by those self doubt spirals that pop up and seem to explode your entire day. I hope you can’t relate.

Anyway, that’s poem #1 for 2025. I’m hoping to write at least 11 more before the year is over.

If you happen to write one using that prompt (inspired by) let me know in the comments. I’d love to check them all out!
